Spike Stream records volleyball games. To do that it stores rosters, statistics and game results, and some of the people in those rosters are minors. We think that deserves plain language rather than a template, so this page says exactly what is kept, what is published and how to have any of it taken down.

There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts on this site or in the app. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers. That isn't a promise about the future — it is a description of the code as it stands.

Anyone can read this site without an account. Public pages show team names, scores, schedules, set results and box scores.

To anyone without an account, players are identified by jersey number and playing position — never by name. A public box score says “#8 Setter” and never the person behind it. Be aware that if a roster is published elsewhere — a school website, a printed program — someone could match a number back to a name. We can control what this site publishes, not what other sites do.

Seeing names is tied to following, in the app and on this website alike. Following a team shows its players' names and photos; a team can require the manager's approval before a follow takes effect, or close following entirely. A player's own setting goes further: whoever claimed that player — the player or a parent — can require their personal approval, and then even approved team followers see only the jersey number and position unless that player approves them too.

You can now sign in on this website as well as in the app, and an approved follower sees the same names, photos and written analysis here that they would see there. What changed is where you can sign in, not who is allowed to see what: the rules above are applied by our server, which decides what to send each request, so signing in never reveals anything a team or player hasn't agreed to. Nobody browsing without an account ever sees a name or a photo, anywhere.

Coaching staff are the one exception. If a team lists a head or assistant coach, that name appears on the team's public page. Those are adults acting in a public role, which is different from a player on a roster, and a team manager can clear either name at any time.

• Rosters. A name, jersey number, position and class year for each spot on a team, entered by that team's coach or manager.
• Accounts. If you sign up, your name, email address and mobile number, held in AWS Cognito. Sign-in is handled by Cognito; we never see your password. Signing in on this website keeps a sign-in token in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in between visits; signing out removes it.
• Player profiles. If someone claims a roster spot, a profile with a name, an optional photo and an optional short bio.
• Game data. Every play recorded by the scorer, plus the statistics and results computed from it.
• A device identifier. Browsing without an account still needs a token to reach our API, so the app and this site generate a random device id and store it locally. It is not linked to a person, and it tells us nothing about you beyond that the same device came back.

This is the part worth being direct about. A team manager can add a player to a roster — including a minor — without that player or their parent taking any action. That is how a coach can set up a team the night before a match, and it is also how a name can end up in our database without the person knowing.

Two things follow from that. First, roster names are never shown to the public — not on this website and not in the app. They are shown only to people the team or the player has accepted as followers, which is why box scores read as jersey numbers and positions to everyone else. Second, if you are a player or a parent and you want a name, photo or profile removed, you can ask us directly and we will remove it. You do not need an account to make that request, and you do not need to go through the coach.

Spike Stream is built for school and club volleyball, so rosters routinely include people under 18 and can include people under 13. Accounts are intended for adults — coaches, parents and players old enough to hold one — and a child does not need an account to appear on a roster their coach created.

If you are a parent or guardian and want to see what we hold about your child, have it corrected, or have it deleted, email us and we will act on it. We will not ask you to prove anything beyond enough to know which roster spot you mean.

Game recaps and coaching notes are written by a large language model running in AWS Bedrock. What gets sent to it is game data: scores, plays and statistics. Photos, email addresses and account details are never sent.

The two are written separately and on purpose. The published recap on a game page is generated from data in which players appear only as jersey numbers, so a public recap cannot contain a player's name — not because the model was told to avoid names, but because it was never given any. Coaching notes are the other case: they do include names so they can say who did what, and they are visible only to a team's staff and its accepted followers, never to anonymous visitors. Where a name is shown to a follower, it is added when the page is sent to that person, not stored in the text.

AWS does not use content sent to Bedrock to train models, and requests stay within US regions. The generated text is stored alongside the game, and a recap can be deleted like anything else here.

Everything runs in Amazon Web Services in the United States (us-east-1). The database is encrypted, and photos are stored in private storage that is not publicly listable. Amazon is our only infrastructure provider — there is no other company processing this data.

In the app, a team manager can delete a roster spot or a whole team, and someone who has claimed a player can edit or delete that profile and leave a team.

For anything else — including a request from someone without an account — email support@spike.stream. Tell us the team and the jersey number or name, and we will confirm once it is done.

One honest caveat: statistics computed from a game are kept even when a roster spot is deleted, because removing them would silently rewrite a team's season totals and every other player's numbers. Those retained records carry an internal id, not a name. If you want them gone as well, say so in your request and we will remove them.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we publish or keep, the date at the top changes with it.
